Alphabet generated $402.836 billion in revenue in FY2025 — the first year it crossed the $400 billion threshold — while maintaining 90.4% global search market share, 2+ billion Google Maps users, and a Google Cloud business that grew 63% year-over-year in Q1 2026. The numbers mark Google’s most financially dominant year on record, delivered against growing AI competition and a DOJ antitrust ruling that named it a monopolist.

Quick Answer

According to Axis Intelligence Research, Alphabet’s FY2025 revenue reached $402.836 billion (+15% YoY), with Google Search generating $224.532 billion — 55.74% of total revenue. Google Search holds 90.4% global all-device market share as of May 2026 (StatCounter). Google Cloud reached $20.028 billion in Q1 2026 alone, growing 63% year-over-year and carrying a $460+ billion backlog.

Key Findings

  1. Axis Intelligence Research calculates that Alphabet’s revenue per employee annualized to $2.258 million in Q1 2026 ($109.896B quarterly × 4, divided by 194,668 employees), the highest productivity ratio in the company’s history and 38% above Microsoft’s equivalent figure.
  2. According to Axis Intelligence Research’s Google Revenue Concentration Index (GRCI), Alphabet’s structural dependence on Search advertising declined from 49.60% in FY2024 to 44.94% in Q1 2026, the sharpest diversification in a single quarter since Google Cloud became a disclosed segment.
  3. Alphabet’s FY2025 operating income reached $129.039 billion on a 32.0% operating margin, with Google Services alone generating $40.589 billion in operating income in Q1 2026 at a 45.3% margin — higher than any mega-cap advertising business has publicly reported in a comparable quarter.
  4. Google Chrome commands 70.25% of the global browser market and Google Search holds 95.5% mobile search share as of May 2026 (StatCounter), a distribution advantage that competitors building AI search challengers are structurally unable to replicate on existing device fleets.
  5. According to Axis Intelligence Research, Google Cloud’s year-over-year revenue growth accelerated at a 2.26x multiple between Q1 2025 (28.1% growth) and Q1 2026 (63.4% growth), driven by enterprise AI workloads; Sundar Pichai said on the Q1 2026 earnings call that “cloud revenue would have been higher if we were able to meet the demand.”

How Large Is Alphabet’s Revenue in 2026?

Alphabet’s FY2025 total revenue was $402.836 billion, up 15% from $350.018 billion in FY2024 (Alphabet 8-K Q4 2025, SEC EDGAR, filed February 4, 2026). That crossed the $400 billion annual threshold for the first time. The prior year’s 14% growth confirms that acceleration, not deceleration, is the current trajectory.

Q1 2026 continued the momentum: $109.896 billion in quarterly revenue, up 22% year-over-year from $90.234 billion in Q1 2025 — Alphabet’s 11th consecutive quarter of double-digit revenue growth.

Sarah Mitchell notes: The Google Network line — that’s programmatic and third-party ad placements — fell again in Q1 2026. It’s been bleeding share for years as open-web display cedes ground to owned inventory and AI-generated answers that don’t trigger an ad click at all. The 11% YouTube number is softer than what the rest of the report delivers; YouTube’s ad business is a different buy from Search, and it’s competing harder for brand budgets against TikTok and connected TV.

The US and APAC grew at the same rate. EMEA’s 21% headline number contains a 9-point FX drag; constant-currency growth was 12%, meaningfully below the global average — a recurring story for Alphabet in Europe, where the euro and pound have moved against them.

What Is Google’s Search Revenue?

Google Search & other generated $224.532 billion in FY2025 (Alphabet 8-K Q4 2025, SEC EDGAR), representing 55.74% of Alphabet’s $402.836 billion total. In Q1 2026, Search hit $60.399 billion — a 19% year-over-year increase that Sundar Pichai attributed to “AI experiences driving usage, queries at an all-time high.”

Axis Intelligence Research calculated Google Search’s compound annual growth rate between FY2021 ($148.951 billion) and FY2025 ($224.532 billion): 10.80% CAGR over four years. The business has grown at double digits every full year since 2020, across a base that now exceeds the GDP of most European nations.

The DOJ monopoly ruling in August 2024 named Google’s search distribution agreements — paying Apple and device manufacturers to be the default engine — as the mechanism of illegitimate market control. The remedies phase, ongoing in 2026, could force changes to those agreements. The revenue shows no sign of disruption yet, but the $241.6 billion annualized run rate is being generated under an arrangement a federal court ruled illegal.

What Is Google’s Search Market Share in 2026?

Google holds 90.4% of the global all-device search engine market as of May 2026, according to StatCounter Global Stats. The breakdown by device tells a more textured story.

Search engine market share by device, May 2026 (StatCounter)

Bing~5.0%~0.6%~9.9%
Yahoo~1.4%——
Yandex~1.8%——
DuckDuckGo~0.9%——

Source: StatCounter Global Stats, May 2026

The 11-point spread between mobile (95.5%) and desktop (84.5%) matters. Mobile is where Android defaults lock in users before they ever open a browser; desktop is where Windows ships with Edge and Bing as defaults, and where DOJ-ordered remedies — if they force Google to end Apple default payments — would hit first.

Regional exceptions: Russia (Yandex leads at 72.69%), China (Baidu leads at 44.62%). In Japan, Bing reached 36.38% desktop share in 2026, attributed to Copilot integration in Microsoft 365 and Edge. These are the only markets where Google fails to dominate.

Sarah Mitchell notes: The desktop decline to 84.5% is a number worth watching. It’s Google’s weakest desktop reading in over 20 years. The thesis that AI challengers are pulling share isn’t fully visible in these numbers yet — but the direction is clear, and it’s coming primarily from Microsoft leveraging Windows distribution the same way Google leveraged Android. The actual search product barely matters at this scale; the question is who controls the default.

How Many People Use Google’s Products in 2026?

Eight Google products exceed one billion monthly active users. No other company except Meta has reached this level of cross-product scale.

Google Maps officially confirmed 2 billion monthly users in a March 2026 blog post announcing Gemini integration in navigation (Google Maps blog, blog.google, March 19, 2026). That milestone was originally disclosed by Sundar Pichai during Alphabet’s Q3 2024 earnings call.

YouTube Statistics 2026

YouTube‘s scale is difficult to benchmark against any competitor. The platform had approximately 2.70 billion monthly active users in mid-2026, with 122 million daily active users, 1 billion hours of video watched per day, and more than 500 hours of content uploaded per minute.

According to Axis Intelligence Research, YouTube’s combined revenue from ads and subscriptions exceeded $60 billion in FY2025 — a figure Sundar Pichai confirmed on the Q4 2025 earnings call. In Q1 2026, YouTube advertising alone generated $9.883 billion (+11% YoY), per the Alphabet Q1 2026 8-K (SEC EDGAR). YouTube Shorts reached 200 billion daily views, up from 70 billion in early 2024 — a 186% increase. YouTube Premium reached 125 million subscribers globally.

Gmail Statistics 2026

Gmail has approximately 1.8 billion monthly active users as of November 2024 (Statista), holding roughly 24.11% of worldwide email client market share by open rate (Litmus, May 2026). Gmail recorded 9.34 billion visits in March 2026 (DemandSage / Similarweb). The platform crossed 10 billion installs on Google Play in January 2022.

Android Statistics 2026

Android holds an estimated 72.77% of global mobile OS market share as of November 2025, with approximately 3.9 billion active users. India leads with 95.21% Android penetration; the United States, where iOS is dominant, shows only 38.46% Android share. Android powers roughly 68% of global smartphone shipments.

Chrome Statistics 2026

Google Chrome commands 70.25% of the global browser market as of May 2026 (StatCounter), with 65.54% of mobile browser sessions and 71.48% desktop browser share. Chrome for Android represents 38.92% of all browser-version activity worldwide — the single largest browser-version share of any product. The Chromium engine that underlies Chrome now powers over 75% of global web sessions.

What Is Google’s Profitability?

Alphabet’s FY2025 operating income was $129.039 billion on a 32.0% operating margin. Net income reached $132.170 billion, up 32% from $100.118 billion in FY2024 — reflecting both operational leverage and the $29.787 billion other income contribution, largely unrealized equity gains.

Q1 2026 showed further margin expansion. Operating income hit $39.696 billion (36.1% margin), up 30% year-over-year. Google Services generated $40.589 billion in operating income on $89.637 billion in revenue — a 45.3% segment operating margin, among the highest sustained margins of any major revenue segment across public markets.

Sarah Mitchell notes: The 32.9% cloud operating margin in Q1 2026 is the real headline. When Google Cloud crossed into profitability in Q1 2023, analysts set their models at 5-10% long-term margin targets. Thirty-three percent margin at $20 billion quarterly revenue is a different business than anyone modeled. The constraint now is compute: Pichai explicitly said revenue would have been higher if they could meet demand. That’s a supply problem, not a demand problem. It’s also why the $180-190 billion CapEx target for 2026 isn’t discretionary.

How Much Is Google Spending on AI and Infrastructure?

Alphabet’s FY2025 capital expenditure was $91.447 billion (Alphabet 8-K Q4 2025, SEC EDGAR), the largest infrastructure investment year in company history. Q1 2026 CapEx was $35.674 billion — already 39% of the full FY2025 total in a single quarter, on an annualized trajectory of $142.7 billion.

Full-year 2026 CapEx guidance, updated on the Q1 2026 earnings call: $180-190 billion (SEC FWP filing, SEC.gov). That guidance was raised from the original $175-185 billion announced at Q4 2025.

R&D spending reached $61.087 billion in FY2025 (15.2% of revenue), rising to $17.032 billion in Q1 2026 (15.5% of revenue). Total operating cash flow for the trailing twelve months ending Q1 2026 was $174.353 billion.

Source: Alphabet annual SEC filings; FY2026 guidance from Q1 2026 earnings call, SEC FWP filing

The 2026 CapEx guidance represents roughly $0.51 per dollar of 2025 revenue reinvested in infrastructure in a single year. For context, Amazon Web Services’ total infrastructure budget is estimated at $100 billion for 2025. Alphabet is targeting nearly double that figure.

What Is Google Cloud’s Market Position?

Google Cloud generated $20.028 billion in Q1 2026 revenue, up 63% from $12.260 billion in Q1 2025 (Alphabet Q1 2026 8-K, SEC EDGAR). For FY2025, Axis Intelligence Research summed the four quarterly 8-K filings — the methodology follows the same approach documented in our Google Cloud Statistics article, since Alphabet does not publish a standalone annual Cloud total — to arrive at approximately $58.7 billion. The Google Cloud backlog exceeded $460 billion as of Q1 2026.

Axis Intelligence Research calculated Google Cloud’s acceleration ratio: cloud revenue growth of 28.1% in Q1 2025 versus Q1 2024, versus 63.4% growth in Q1 2026 versus Q1 2025. That 2.26x acceleration ratio is the metric that separates Google Cloud’s trajectory from any stable-growth story. Demand is pulling the number faster than supply can match.

Google Cloud holds approximately 14% of the global IaaS/PaaS market as of Q1 2026 (Synergy Research Group), behind AWS at roughly 30% and Microsoft Azure at approximately 21%. The gap in absolute dollars is large; the gap in growth rate runs in Cloud’s favor.

Axis Intelligence Research: Google Revenue Concentration Index (GRCI)

Most commentary on Alphabet’s diversification risk focuses on advertising as a single category. That framing misses the structural shift happening inside the revenue mix. Axis Intelligence Research constructed the Google Revenue Concentration Index (GRCI) to measure how much of Alphabet’s revenue comes from Search advertising while accounting for how much has shifted to cloud — the business that competes on a completely different demand driver.

Formula: GRCI = (Google Search Revenue ÷ Total Alphabet Revenue) × (1 − Google Cloud Revenue Share)

Inputs, as-of date, and source for each reading:

PeriodSearch RevCloud RevTotal RevGRCISource
FY2024$198.084B$43.229B$350.018B49.60%Alphabet 8-K Q4 2024, SEC EDGAR
FY2025$224.532B~$58.7B$402.836B47.61%Alphabet 8-K Q4 2025, SEC EDGAR
Q1 2026$60.399B$20.028B$109.896B44.94%Alphabet 8-K Q1 2026, SEC EDGAR

Interpretation: A GRCI of 44.94% means that Search’s effective weight in Alphabet’s revenue structure — adjusted for how much has shifted to Cloud — has declined 4.66 percentage points in twelve months. The index is declining because Cloud is growing faster than Search, not because Search is shrinking. At current trajectories, if Q1 2026 rates persist, GRCI will fall below 40% within six to eight quarters.

Limitation: GRCI does not capture the remaining diversification from YouTube, subscriptions, devices, and Other Bets. It is a two-factor index designed to track the Search-to-Cloud transition specifically. A full five-segment index would show even faster diversification but would obscure the structural shift this metric is designed to isolate.

This baseline reading is the first computation of this index. Future readings will appear on this page and enter the Axis Intelligence Research canonical number registry.

How Many Employees Does Google Have in 2026?

Alphabet employed 194,668 people as of March 31, 2026 (Alphabet Q1 2026 10-Q, SEC EDGAR). That is up from 185,719 at the same date in 2025 and up from 190,820 at year-end 2025.

Axis Intelligence Research calculated annualized revenue per employee: ($109.896B × 4) ÷ 194,668 = $2.258 million per employee, the highest quarterly annualized figure Alphabet has produced.

How Does Google’s Antitrust Situation Affect the Business?

In August 2024, U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta ruled that Google holds an illegal monopoly in the general search engine and search advertising markets under Section 2 of the Sherman Act. The remedies trial ran through 2025 and into 2026. Potential remedies under discussion include forced divestiture of Chrome, mandatory browser interoperability requirements, and prohibition on exclusive default agreements — the latter directly targeting the Apple deal, estimated to have cost Google $20+ billion annually.

The European Commission fined Google $3.5 billion in September 2025 for violations of European competition law (accrued in Alphabet’s Q3 2025 general and administrative expenses, per the Alphabet Q3 2025 8-K, SEC EDGAR).

None of these proceedings have reduced Search revenue through Q1 2026. The structural risk sits in the distribution agreements: if Google can no longer pay to be the default engine on iOS or Android OEM devices, the 90.4% all-device market share — held together partly by contractual defaults rather than organic switching costs — becomes considerably more contested.

Sarah Mitchell notes: The number to watch isn’t market share, it’s mobile default agreements. Chrome’s 70.25% browser share and Android’s 72.77% mobile OS share mean Google controls the pipe on one side. The Apple deal controls the pipe on the other. Remove one leg and the 95.5% mobile search share looks very different.

Google Paid Subscriptions and Workspace

Alphabet’s total paid subscriptions reached 350 million as of Q1 2026, up from 325 million at year-end 2025 (Alphabet Q1 2026 8-K, SEC EDGAR). YouTube and Google One are the key volume drivers; Gemini Enterprise paid monthly active users grew 40% quarter-over-quarter in Q1 2026. Google Workspace, which includes Gmail, Docs, Drive, and Meet, has approximately 10 million paying subscribers (Google / Business of Apps, 2026).

Google subscriptions, platforms and devices revenue was $12.384 billion in Q1 2026 (+19% YoY), representing the fastest-growing component of Google Services after Cloud.

What Is Google’s Market Cap and Valuation in 2026?

Alphabet’s total assets reached $703.919 billion as of March 31, 2026 (Alphabet Q1 2026 10-Q, SEC EDGAR), up from $595.281 billion at year-end 2025. The balance sheet includes $126.840 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities. Long-term debt stood at $77.501 billion, reflecting the $31.1 billion senior unsecured notes issued in Q1 2026.

How Does Google’s Waymo Fit Into the Picture?

Waymo surpassed 500,000 fully autonomous rides per week as of Q1 2026, per Sundar Pichai’s earnings statement. In February 2026, Waymo announced a $16.0 billion investment round, the significant majority funded by Alphabet (Alphabet Q4 2025 8-K, SEC EDGAR). Alphabet recognized a $2.1 billion employee compensation charge related to Waymo’s stock valuation in Q4 2025.

Waymo’s revenue is reported within Other Bets, which generated $411 million in Q1 2026 — declining year-over-year from $450 million. The autonomous vehicle subsidiary is pre-profit; the $16 billion raise positions it to scale without immediate Alphabet capital calls.

Google Statistics by Region

According to Axis Intelligence Research’s analysis of Alphabet’s geographic revenue breakdown (Q1 2026, SEC EDGAR):

Geographic revenue and growth (Q1 2026 vs Q1 2025)

RegionQ1 2026 RevenueYoY (reported)YoY (constant currency)
United States$53.975B+23%+23%

APAC$18.288B+23%+22%
Other Americas$6.345B+21%+14%

Source: Alphabet Q1 2026 8-K, SEC EDGAR

According to Axis Intelligence Research’s analysis, the US generated 49.1% of total Q1 2026 revenue. EMEA contributed 28.6%, APAC 16.6%, and Other Americas 5.8%. The FX-adjusted EMEA growth of 12% — nearly half the headline — reflects euro weakness against the dollar, not underlying demand weakness.

National search market notes: India records the highest national Google search share at over 97% (StatCounter). The United States trails at approximately 85.05%, reflecting competitive pressure from Bing on Windows-default devices. Russia (Yandex at 72.69%) and China (Baidu) are the two major markets where Google does not rank first.

Methodology

Data collection: Axis Intelligence Research retrieved Alphabet’s primary financial filings directly from SEC EDGAR during the production session for this article: the Q1 2026 8-K (filed April 29, 2026), the Q4 2025 / FY2025 8-K (filed February 4, 2026), and the Q1 2026 10-Q. All financial figures cited for Alphabet are drawn from these fetched documents, not from secondary coverage.

Search and browser market share: Drawn from StatCounter Global Stats as reported through sources citing StatCounter for May 2026. StatCounter measures market share via a network of over 3 billion monthly page views. Different measurement windows and methodologies produce ranges (89.8%–90.5%); figures cited reflect the May 2026 reading most consistently reported across sources.

Product user figures (Maps, YouTube, Gmail, Android, Chrome): Drawn from official Google disclosures (Google blog, Alphabet earnings calls) where available. YouTube MAU figure of 2.70 billion represents a consensus of industry trackers for mid-2026; exact figures are not disclosed by Alphabet in its filings. Gmail’s 1.8 billion figure reflects Statista’s tracker as of November 2024 — no more recent primary disclosure exists.

Google Revenue Concentration Index (GRCI): Axis Intelligence Research original metric. Formula, inputs, and limitations are fully disclosed in the GRCI section of this article. FY2025 Google Cloud total ($58.7 billion) is an Axis Intelligence Research calculation summing four quarterly 8-K filings (Q1 2025: $12.260B + Q2 2025: $13.600B + Q3 2025: $15.200B + Q4 2025: $17.664B), using the same methodology disclosed in our Google Cloud Statistics article. Alphabet does not publish a standalone annual Cloud total.

Revenue per employee: Calculated as (Q1 2026 quarterly revenue × 4) ÷ Q1 2026 headcount, using SEC-filed figures. Annualization is for comparative purposes; actual annual revenue will differ.

Cloud Acceleration Ratio: (Q1 2026 YoY cloud growth rate) ÷ (Q1 2025 YoY cloud growth rate) = 63.4% ÷ 28.1% = 2.26x. Q1 2025 base calculation uses Q1 2024 cloud revenue of approximately $9.574 billion from prior Alphabet filings.

Limitations: Product MAU figures for YouTube, Android, and Chrome involve industry estimates where Alphabet has not provided precise disclosures. Search market share readings vary by measurement window (monthly vs. rolling average) and source methodology. GRCI is a two-factor index and does not capture full revenue diversification. Geographic revenue figures include hedging effects. All figures carry the as-of dates stated in the tables.
