Apple sold $6.19 billion of iPads in the June 2026 quarter, down 5.9% year over year, while the entry price of every iPad line rose between 20% and 28.7% in a single day. According to Axis Intelligence Research, iPad fell to 5.66% of Apple’s revenue in that quarter, the lowest reading in three fiscal years.
Quick Answer: How Big Is the iPad Business in 2026?
Apple reported $21.70 billion in iPad net sales across the first nine months of fiscal 2026, up 3.0% from the same period a year earlier, according to Apple’s condensed consolidated financial statements for the quarter ended June 27, 2026. The worldwide tablet market shipped 151.9 million units in 2025 and is forecast by IDC to fall 8.6% to roughly 138.9 million units in 2026. Apple held 41.9% of tablet unit shipments in the fourth quarter of 2025 on 17.1 million units. According to Axis Intelligence Research, iPadOS accounts for a substantially larger share of tablet usage than of tablet sales — a gap of 9.46 percentage points as of April 2026.
Key Findings
- According to Axis Intelligence Research, iPad accounted for 5.66% of Apple’s total net sales in the quarter ended June 27, 2026, down from 7.00% in the year-ago quarter and the lowest quarterly share in the three fiscal years examined.
- Apple’s iPad net sales fell 5.9% year over year to $6,191 million in fiscal Q3 2026, per Apple’s Form 10-Q filed with the SEC.
- Worldwide tablet shipments reached 151.9 million units in 2025, growing 5.0%, and IDC forecasts a decline to approximately 138.9 million units in 2026.
- According to Axis Intelligence Research, the average U.S. entry price across Apple’s four iPad lines rose 22.49% on June 25, 2026, from $611.50 to $749.00 — 4.2 percentage points steeper than IDC’s 18.3% full-year PC price forecast.
- According to Axis Intelligence Research, Apple’s implied iPad revenue per unit fell 1.62% to $502.63 in the December 2025 quarter even as its unit shipments grew 8%.
How Many iPads Does Apple Sell?
Apple stopped disclosing iPad unit sales after fiscal 2018, so every unit figure in circulation comes from a tracker, not from Apple. The best-supported recent number: Apple shipped 17.1 million tablets in the fourth quarter of 2025, taking 41.9% of the market on 8% year-over-year growth, according to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker.
The composition matters more than the headline. IDC reports that entry-level iPads made up nearly 52% of Apple’s quarterly volume, with the 2024 iPad Air and refreshed iPad Pro filling in behind. Apple did not win that quarter with the expensive models. It won it with the cheap one, discounted into the holidays.
Worldwide Tablet Shipments by Quarter
| Quarter | Detachable tablets | Slate tablets | Total | Axis Detachable Mix Ratio | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Q1 2025 | 19,903,220 | 14,709,706 | 34,612,926 | 57.50% | IDC PCD Tracker |
| Q2 2025 | 21,144,042 | 17,173,935 | 38,317,977 | 55.18% | IDC PCD Tracker |
| Q3 2025 | 21,861,357 | 16,179,334 | 38,040,691 | 57.47% | IDC PCD Tracker |
| Q4 2025 | 25,642,410 | 15,257,783 | 40,900,193 | 62.70% | IDC PCD Tracker |
| Q1 2026 | 21,231,440 | 14,217,495 | 35,448,935 | 59.89% | IDC PCD Tracker |
The four 2025 quarters sum to 151,871,787 units, which reconciles with IDC’s stated full-year total of 151.9 million. The Detachable Mix Ratio is an Axis-calculated figure: detachable units divided by total tablet units. It has moved from 57.50% to 59.89% over five quarters, and it is the single cleanest signal that buyers are treating tablets as keyboard-attached work machines rather than couch screens.
Vendor Shipments, Fourth Quarter 2025
| Vendor | Units | Unit share | YoY change | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apple | 17.1M | 41.9% | +8.0% | IDC PCD Tracker |
| Samsung | 6.4M | — | −7.5% | IDC PCD Tracker |
| Lenovo | 3.9M | — | +35.3% | IDC PCD Tracker |
| Xiaomi | — | — | +15.8% | IDC PCD Tracker |
| Huawei | — | — | +4.9% | IDC PCD Tracker |
Alex Rivera: Samsung down 7.5% while Lenovo grows 35.3% is not a story about Android losing. It is a story about who is willing to fight on price in the PRC and EMEA channels and who is not. The same split shows up one category over in our laptop sales statistics, where premium vendors held revenue while unit leaders bled share. Apple’s 8% is the one that should make you pause, because Apple grew volume in a quarter when its own revenue per unit was falling. That is the shape of a company defending attach rate and installed base, not margin.
What Is Apple’s iPad Revenue in 2026?
This is where the picture gets uncomfortable for anyone who has been calling iPad a growth story.
iPad Net Sales by Fiscal Quarter
| Apple fiscal quarter | Quarter ended | iPad net sales | YoY change | iPad share of Apple revenue | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Q1 2025 | Dec 28, 2024 | $8,088M | — | 6.51% | Apple 8-K |
| Q2 2025 | Mar 29, 2025 | $6,402M | — | 6.71% | Apple filings (Axis-derived) |
| Q3 2025 | Jun 28, 2025 | $6,581M | — | 7.00% | Apple 10-Q |
| Q4 2025 | Sep 27, 2025 | $6,952M | — | — | Apple 10-K (Axis-derived) |
| Q1 2026 | Dec 27, 2025 | $8,595M | +6.3% | 5.98% | Apple 8-K |
| Q2 2026 | Mar 28, 2026 | $6,914M | +8.0% | 6.22% | Apple filings (Axis-derived) |
| Q3 2026 | Jun 27, 2026 | $6,191M | −5.9% | 5.66% | Apple 10-Q |
Apple does not publish a standalone Q2 or Q4 figure in its quarterly statements; it publishes three-month and nine-month columns. Axis Intelligence Research derives the missing quarters by subtraction — nine-month net sales minus the reported first and third quarters. The method validates: applying it to fiscal 2025 returns $6,402 million for Q2, which matches the figure Apple published in its own Q2 2025 statements exactly.
For the full fiscal year, Apple’s Form 10-K reports iPad net sales of $28,023 million in 2025, $26,694 million in 2024 and $28,300 million in 2023. Fiscal 2025 grew 5%, which Apple attributes to iPad Air, iPad mini and the entry iPad, offset by weaker iPad Pro.
The Axis iPad Revenue Concentration Metric
Definition. iPad net sales divided by Apple total net sales, expressed as a percentage, for the same period. Why it exists. Absolute iPad revenue is nearly flat across three years. What has changed is iPad’s weight inside Apple. A category can grow in dollars and still shrink in strategic importance, and only the ratio shows it.
| Period | iPad net sales | Apple total net sales | Concentration | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FY2023 | $28,300M | $383,285M | 7.38% | Apple 10-K FY2025 |
| FY2024 | $26,694M | $391,035M | 6.83% | Apple 10-K FY2025 |
| FY2025 | $28,023M | $416,161M | 6.73% | Apple 10-K FY2025 |
| Q3 FY2025 | $6,581M | $94,036M | 7.00% | Apple 10-Q |
| Q3 FY2026 | $6,191M | $109,417M | 5.66% | Apple 10-Q |
According to Axis Intelligence Research, iPad revenue concentration fell 134 basis points year over year in the June 2026 quarter, from 7.00% to 5.66%. The denominator did most of the work: Apple’s total revenue rose 16% on record iPhone, Mac and Services quarters, while iPad went backwards. Apple’s own 10-Q attributes the iPad decline to lower iPad mini and iPad Air sales.
Limitations. The ratio is sensitive to iPhone launch timing and to Services growth, neither of which says anything about iPad demand. Read it as a measure of relative weight, not of category health.
What Does an iPad Cost in 2026?
On June 25, 2026, Apple raised U.S. list prices across the entire iPad lineup. The proximate cause sits upstream of consumer electronics entirely: memory demand from AI buildout, the same pressure we quantify in our AI data center statistics. These are the prices verified live on Apple’s U.S. online store on August 4, 2026.
| Model | Entry price before June 25, 2026 | Entry price now | Increase | Source |

The Axis iPad Entry Price Index
Definition. The unweighted mean of the four line-entry U.S. list prices (base storage, Wi-Fi) across iPad, iPad mini, iPad Air and iPad Pro. Formula. (iPad + iPad mini + iPad Air 11-inch + iPad Pro 11-inch) ÷ 4. Readings. $611.50 as of June 24, 2026. $749.00 as of August 4, 2026. Change: +22.49%. Methodology version. v1.0. This is the baseline reading; no prior series exists.
According to Axis Intelligence Research, the iPad Entry Price Index rose 22.49% in a single pricing action — 4.2 percentage points steeper than the 18.3% full-year average selling price increase IDC forecasts for traditional PCs in 2026. That comparison is the finding worth carrying: IDC’s own analysis argues tablets should absorb the memory shortage better than PCs, because memory is a smaller share of a tablet’s bill of materials. Apple’s pricing went the other way.
We disagree with the softer read here, and the reason is in the shape of the increase. The steepest jump landed on the $349 iPad — the model IDC says is more than half of Apple’s volume. A vendor absorbing a component shock protects its volume SKU. A vendor repricing its portfolio does not.
Limitations. The index is unweighted and U.S.-only. It tracks entry configurations, so it will miss changes in higher storage tiers, and it does not capture street pricing: third-party retailers were discounting the M5 iPad Pro to $899 within weeks of the increase. It measures what Apple asks, not what buyers pay.
Alex Rivera: Run the price-per-year math before you get annoyed at the sticker. An iPad kept five years at $449 costs about $90 a year. The same iPad at $349 cost $70. That is a real increase and also a rounding error next to what most people spend on the subscriptions they consume on the thing. The group this actually bites is education and small-business fleets buying forty units at once, where a $100 step change is $4,000 with no product improvement attached.
Which Tablet Operating System Has the Largest Market Share?
Two different questions hide inside this one, and conflating them is the most common error in tablet coverage.
Shipments measure what shipped last quarter. Usage measures what is being used right now, across every device still in service.
| Measure | iOS / iPadOS | Android | Other | As of | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tablet web traffic share | 51.36% | 48.51% | 0.13% | April 2026 | StatCounter |
| Apple tablet unit shipment share | 41.9% | — | — | Q4 2025 | IDC PCD Tracker |
According to StatCounter’s tablet operating system data, iOS and iPadOS accounted for 51.36% of worldwide tablet page views in April 2026, against 48.51% for Android.
The Axis iPad Usage-Shipment Gap
Definition. iOS/iPadOS share of worldwide tablet web traffic minus Apple’s share of worldwide tablet unit shipments. Formula. 51.36% (StatCounter, April 2026) − 41.9% (IDC, Q4 2025) = 9.46 percentage points, a ratio of 1.226x. Methodology version. v1.0, baseline reading.
According to Axis Intelligence Research, iPadOS punches 22.6% above its shipment weight in actual tablet usage. Two mechanisms explain it, and they compound. iPads stay in service longer, because Apple ships iPadOS updates to hardware that is five and six years old, so each year’s shipments accumulate into the active base instead of aging out. Shipment share and usage share diverge in adjacent hardware categories too, as our foldable phone statistics show. And iPads get used harder — the device that replaces a laptop generates more page views than the device that lives in a kitchen drawer.
This is the number that should reframe how the iPad business is valued. Apple sells four tablets in ten and captures five browsing sessions in ten. For a company whose Services segment monetizes engagement rather than hardware, that gap is the entire argument for keeping iPad alive at a 5.66% revenue share. Engagement-per-device is the same lens we apply in our cloud gaming statistics work.
Limitations. StatCounter measures page views, not devices or people, and page views over-count heavy users. Device detection can misclassify large-screen Android tablets. The two inputs also cover different periods — April 2026 traffic against Q4 2025 shipments — because IDC does not publish vendor share monthly. Treat the gap as directional and large, not as a decimal-precise constant. It should be recomputed each time IDC publishes a new quarter.
Is the Tablet Market Growing or Shrinking in 2026?
The honest answer is that the two most-cited trackers do not agree, and readers deserve to know that before they cite either.
IDC reports that worldwide tablet shipments grew 2.4% year over year in Q1 2026 to 35.4 million units, with the growth driven by inventory pull-ins ahead of memory price increases, entry-level PC shortages pushing buyers toward tablets, and Japan’s GIGA school program supporting an otherwise declining commercial segment.
TechInsights reports the opposite for the same quarter: that the global tablet market declined in Q1 2026 for the first time in nearly two years, with Apple and Lenovo defending share while Samsung and Xiaomi came under pressure.
Both firms agree on the vendor-level story. They disagree on the sign of the total. The likely reconciliation is definitional: IDC’s Personal Computing Device Tracker counts detachable tablets and slate tablets together, and detachables were the segment that held up. A tracker weighting slates more heavily, or excluding some detachable configurations, would read the same quarter as a decline. Axis Intelligence Research reports IDC’s figure as the headline because IDC publishes the underlying quarterly unit table that lets anyone reproduce it, and flags the divergence rather than averaging two numbers built on different definitions.
Forecast: Worldwide Tablet Shipments
| Period | Shipments | Change | Type | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 actual | 151.9M | +5.0% | Reported | IDC PCD Tracker |
| Q1 2026 actual | 35.4M | +2.4% | Reported | IDC PCD Tracker |
| 2026 forecast | 138.9M | −8.6% | Forecast (June 8, 2026) | IDC PCD Tracker |
IDC expects tablets to fare better than PCs, which it forecasts will decline 11.3% for the year with quarterly declines reaching 20% by Q4. We track that market separately in our laptop sales statistics report.
Axis scenario, not a forecast. Holding Apple’s Q4 2025 unit share of 41.9% constant against IDC’s 138.9 million unit 2026 forecast implies roughly 58.2 million Apple tablet units in 2026. This is a share-constant arithmetic scenario, published so readers can see the sensitivity. Apple’s share is seasonally strongest in the December quarter, so a full-year share held at the Q4 level almost certainly overstates the result.
Where Do iPads Sell Best?
Apple reports revenue by geography, not by product within geography, so precise regional iPad splits are not publicly available. Two anchors are.
Apple’s Form 10-K names Japan as the one reportable segment where iPad specifically contributed to a fiscal 2025 revenue increase, alongside iPhone and Services. Japan is also where the largest single public-sector tablet deployment in the world runs: the GIGA School Program administered by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, which IDC cites as the exception propping up an otherwise declining commercial tablet segment in Q1 2026.
On the composition of that deployment, the most recent public breakdown comes from the U.S. International Trade Administration, which reported that iPad accounted for 2.1 million of the 7.4 million devices distributed under the program’s first phase — 28% of the total. [Older data] That breakdown covers the first GIGA phase; no comparable device-level split has been published for the current refresh cycle, and readers should treat the 28% as a historical baseline rather than a current share.
Alex Rivera: Education fleets are the least glamorous and most durable part of this business. A ministry that standardizes on iPadOS is not making a quarterly decision; it is committing to a management stack, a training program and an accessory supply chain for the better part of a decade. It is also the segment where a 22% entry-price increase does the most damage, because the buyer is a procurement line item with a fixed per-unit subsidy, not a consumer who can stretch.
Methodology
Collection. Every figure in this report was retrieved from a source document opened on August 4, 2026. Apple financial data comes from the Form 10-K for fiscal year 2025 filed with the SEC, the Form 8-K exhibit for fiscal Q1 2026, and the condensed consolidated financial statements and Form 10-Q for fiscal Q3 2026. Tablet shipment data comes from IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker as published in IDC’s 4Q25 tracker commentary and its Q1 2026 market page. Usage data comes from StatCounter Global Stats. Pricing was read directly from Apple’s U.S. online store on August 4, 2026. Pre-increase prices are attributed to MacRumors and are cited unlinked, in line with our policy of hyperlinking primary sources only.
Derived quarterly revenue. Apple publishes three-month and nine-month columns, not standalone Q2 and Q4 figures. Q2 = nine-month total − Q1 − Q3. Q4 = fiscal year total − nine-month total. The method was validated against fiscal 2025, where it returns $6,402 million for Q2 — matching Apple’s separately published Q2 2025 figure.
Original metrics. Four Axis metrics appear in this report: iPad Revenue Concentration, Implied iPad ASP, the iPad Entry Price Index (v1.0) and the Usage-Shipment Gap (v1.0). Each formula, its inputs and its limitations are disclosed inline at the point of use. All are baseline readings; no historical series is claimed.
Fiscal versus calendar alignment. Apple’s fiscal Q1 2026 (quarter ended December 27, 2025) corresponds to IDC’s calendar 4Q25. All cross-source calculations in this report pair those periods deliberately; the mismatch is at most one week.
Known limitations. Apple has not disclosed iPad unit sales since fiscal 2018, so all unit figures are tracker estimates subject to revision. Tracker definitions of “tablet” differ between IDC and TechInsights, and the two disagree on the direction of Q1 2026. StatCounter measures page views rather than devices. Regional iPad revenue is not publicly disclosed. The implied ASP calculation divides Apple-reported revenue by third-party-estimated units and inherits the error in both.
Disagreement disclosed. We report IDC’s Q1 2026 growth figure as the headline while flagging TechInsights’ contrary reading, rather than reconciling two numbers built on different segment definitions.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much revenue does the iPad generate for Apple?
Apple reported iPad net sales of $21.70 billion across the first nine months of fiscal 2026 and $28.02 billion for full fiscal year 2025. According to Axis Intelligence Research, that represented 6.73% of Apple’s total net sales in fiscal 2025, down from 7.38% in fiscal 2023.
How many iPads does Apple sell per year?
Apple has not disclosed iPad unit sales since fiscal 2018. IDC estimates Apple shipped 17.1 million tablets in the fourth quarter of 2025 alone, holding 41.9% unit share. Holding that share constant against IDC’s 138.9 million unit 2026 market forecast implies roughly 58.2 million Apple units for the year — an Axis scenario, not a forecast.
Is the iPad still the best-selling tablet?
Yes. Apple led all vendors with 41.9% of worldwide tablet unit shipments in Q4 2025, more than 2.6 times second-placed Samsung’s 6.4 million units, according to IDC. Android tablets collectively outsell iPad, but no single Android vendor comes close.
Why did iPad prices go up in 2026?
Apple raised U.S. iPad list prices on June 25, 2026, citing memory and storage component costs. According to Axis Intelligence Research, the average entry price across the four iPad lines rose 22.49%, from $611.50 to $749.00. IDC attributes the industry-wide pressure to a memory shortage it expects to persist into 2027.
How much does an iPad cost in 2026?
As verified on Apple’s U.S. store on August 4, 2026: iPad (A16) from $449, iPad mini from $599, iPad Air 11-inch from $749, and iPad Pro 11-inch from $1,199, with the 13-inch iPad Pro at $1,499. Third-party retailers were discounting below these figures within weeks of the increase.
Is the tablet market growing in 2026?
It depends on the tracker. IDC reports 2.4% growth in Q1 2026 to 35.4 million units and forecasts an 8.6% full-year decline to 138.9 million units. TechInsights reports that the market declined in Q1 2026 for the first time in nearly two years. The two firms use different segment definitions.
Does iPad have more market share than Android tablets?
By shipments, no — Android vendors collectively ship more units. By usage, yes: StatCounter recorded iOS and iPadOS at 51.36% of worldwide tablet web traffic in April 2026 against 48.51% for Android. According to Axis Intelligence Research, that produces a Usage-Shipment Gap of 9.46 percentage points in Apple’s favor.
Which iPad sells the most?
The entry-level iPad. IDC reports that entry-level models accounted for nearly 52% of Apple’s tablet volume in the fourth quarter of 2025, with the iPad Air and iPad Pro making up the remainder.
What is Apple’s installed base of active devices?
Apple stated that its installed base exceeded 2.5 billion active devices as of the quarter ended December 27, 2025. Apple does not break that figure out by product, so no public iPad-specific installed base exists.
Why did iPad revenue fall in the June 2026 quarter?
Apple’s Form 10-Q attributes the 5.9% decline to lower net sales of iPad mini and iPad Air. Apple also warned that supply constraints would affect iPad, iPhone and Mac availability in the September quarter.
