The average hour broadcast on Kick drew 81.4 viewer-hours in Q1 2026, against 21.1 on Twitch, according to Axis Intelligence Research’s Live Viewer Density Ratio (LVDR™). Twitch produced 82.9% of the broadcast hours across the three Western platforms but only 56.6% of the watch time.
Quick Answer
How big is live streaming in 2026? It depends on who counts. Streams Charts measured a record 31.43 billion hours watched in Q2 2026, with YouTube taking 49.5%. Stream Hatchet measured 17.5 billion hours, with TikTok Live holding 50.9%. Axis Intelligence Research calculates the gap between the two trackers at 1.80× (TDM™) — about 13.9 billion hours of disagreement in a single quarter.
Key Findings
- According to Axis Intelligence Research’s LVDR™, a Twitch broadcast hour drew 21.1 viewer-hours in Q1 2026, down 11.5% from 23.8 a year earlier.
- Axis Intelligence Research finds Kick (81.4) and YouTube Gaming (76.6) deliver roughly 3.6–3.9× Twitch’s viewers per broadcast hour, based on Streamlabs x Stream Hatchet Q1 2026 data.
- Streams Charts recorded 31.43 billion live-stream hours watched in Q2 2026, the largest quarter it has measured, up 8% on Q1.
- Stream Hatchet reported TikTok Live generated 8.9 billion of 17.5 billion hours watched in Q2 2026, a 50.9% share.
- Axis Intelligence Research calculates that HUYA and DouYu’s combined live streaming revenue fell 7.3% year-over-year to RMB1.60 billion in Q2 2026.

How Many Hours of Live Streaming Are Watched in 2026?
The honest answer is a range, and the range is the story. Three measurement operations publish quarterly totals, and they don’t count the same platforms.
Live streaming hours watched by tracker, 2026
| Tracker | Quarter | Hours watched | Platforms counted | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Streams Charts | Q2 2026 | 31.43 billion | YouTube (all live), TikTok LIVE, Twitch, Kick, SOOP, CHZZK, Bigo, Steam, Rumble, others | Streams Charts, Jul 9, 2026 |
| Stream Hatchet | Q2 2026 | 17.5 billion | Includes TikTok Live; YouTube counted as YouTube Gaming | Stream Hatchet Q2 2026 report |
| Stream Hatchet | Q1 2026 | 17 billion | Includes TikTok Live | GameSquare press release, Apr 23, 2026 |
| Streamlabs x Stream Hatchet | Q1 2026 | 21.49 billion | “All tracked platforms” (Twitch, YouTube Gaming, Kick, Facebook, Steam, CHZZK, SOOP and others) | Streamlabs, Jun 10, 2026 |
Two things jump out. First, the biggest single driver of the difference is what counts as YouTube. Streams Charts includes all YouTube live content — sports, podcasts, talk shows — and that alone was 15.5 billion hours in Q2 2026, up 14.8% quarter-over-quarter. Stream Hatchet’s framing tracks YouTube Gaming. Second, the Streamlabs and Stream Hatchet Q1 figures (21.49 billion vs 17 billion) come from the same data vendor but different scopes, which is why nobody should paste one next to the other without a footnote.
The Tracker Divergence Multiple (TDM™)
To give readers a single number for “how much do the trackers disagree,” Axis Intelligence Research publishes the Tracker Divergence Multiple (TDM™):
TDM™ = Streams Charts total hours watched ÷ Stream Hatchet total hours watched (same quarter)
Q2 2026: 31.43 ÷ 17.5 = 1.80. That’s 13.93 billion hours of daylight between two respected trackers — more than the entire Twitch, Kick and YouTube Gaming output of a quarter combined.
Noah Mc’s read: Every “record quarter” headline you saw this summer was true — for one tracker. The honest version is a sentence with a scope in it: 31.4 billion hours if you count all of YouTube; 17.5 billion if you count YouTube Gaming and TikTok Live. If a brand deck quotes one number with no platform list, assume it picked the flattering one.
What Is the Live Streaming Market Share by Platform?
Two scoreboards, two leaders. Both are accurate within their own universe.
Platform share of hours watched, Q2 2026
| Platform | Share | Hours watched | Tracker | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TikTok Live | 50.9% | 8.9 billion | Stream Hatchet | Stream Hatchet Q2 2026 report |
| All other tracked platforms | 49.1% (Axis calc.) | 8.6 billion (Axis calc.) | Stream Hatchet | Axis Intelligence Research, 17.5B − 8.9B |
| YouTube (all live) | 49.5% | 15.5 billion | Streams Charts | Streams Charts, Jul 9, 2026 |
Under Stream Hatchet’s lens, TikTok Live alone out-watched every other platform combined. Under Streams Charts’ lens, YouTube did. The overlap is the mobile-first, non-gaming audience — sports, IRL, talk — which is precisely where both TikTok and YouTube grew.
Twitch vs Kick vs YouTube Gaming, Q1 2026
This is the head-to-head gaming audiences, publishers and esports organizers actually argue about, measured by Stream Hatchet data published through Streamlabs.
| Platform | Hours watched | YoY | Hours streamed | Unique channels | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Twitch | 4.55 billion | −13.68% | 215.8 million | 8.74 million | Streamlabs x Stream Hatchet |
| YouTube Gaming | 2.22 billion | +14.63% | 29.0 million | 1.07 million | Streamlabs x Stream Hatchet |
| Kick | 1.27 billion | +65.35% | 15.61 million | 766,495 | Streamlabs x Stream Hatchet |
Twitch is still the biggest room. It’s shrinking year-over-year while both rivals grow — Twitch lost 720.7 million hours watched versus Q1 2025. By Q2 2026, Streams Charts put Twitch at roughly three times Kick’s hours watched, down from about five times a year earlier.

How Many Viewers Does the Average Live Stream Get? The LVDR™
Every tracker reports hours watched. Almost nobody divides it by hours streamed — and that ratio is the most useful number in live streaming for creators, talent agencies and brand buyers.
Axis Intelligence Research introduces the Live Viewer Density Ratio (LVDR™):
LVDR™ = hours watched ÷ hours streamed (same platform, same quarter)
Mathematically, it equals the average number of concurrent viewers sitting in front of each hour of live broadcast on that platform. It’s a supply-demand reading: how much audience each unit of creator output finds.
LVDR™ by platform, Q1 2026 vs Q4 2025 vs Q1 2025
| Platform | Q1 2025 | Q4 2025 | Q1 2026 | Inputs (Q1 2026) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kick | 83.8* | 83.3 | 81.4 | 1.27B ÷ 15.61M | Axis calc. on Streamlabs x Stream Hatchet |
| YouTube Gaming | 75.6* | 74.5 | 76.6 | 2.22B ÷ 29.0M | Axis calc. on Streamlabs x Stream Hatchet |
| Twitch | 23.8 | 21.1 | 21.1 | 4.55B ÷ 215.8M | Axis calc. on Streamlabs x Stream Hatchet |
| Three platforms combined | — | — | 30.9 | 8.04B ÷ 260.41M | Axis calc. |
*Q1 2025 hours streamed for Kick and YouTube Gaming are back-derived from the year-over-year growth rates Streamlabs published (+69.71% and +13.03%); see Methodology.
Why Twitch’s LVDR™ is a quarter of its rivals’
Twitch carries 82.9% of the three platforms’ broadcast hours and 56.6% of their watch time. Kick carries 6.0% of broadcast hours and 15.8% of watch time. YouTube Gaming: 11.1% and 27.6%.
That asymmetry is Twitch’s long tail. With 8.74 million unique channels streaming in Q1 2026, the platform is where people go live by default — and most of those streams run to a nearly empty room. Kick and YouTube Gaming have far fewer broadcasters sharing the audience.
Noah Mc’s read: This is the number every mid-size streamer should look at before switching. A Twitch broadcast hour averaged 21 viewers in Q1; Kick’s averaged 81. That’s not a promise you’ll quadruple your audience — Kick’s density is propped up by a small pool of big creators, and Just Chatting pulled 303.8 million of Kick’s hours alone. But it tells you where the supply glut is. Twitch’s LVDR fell 11.5% in a year, from 23.8 to 21.1: roughly flat broadcast hours, 720 million fewer watched hours. The audience left before the streamers did.
What Is the Most Watched Content on Live Streaming Platforms?
Conversation beat gameplay again. Just Chatting drew 1.07 billion hours watched across all tracked platforms in Q1 2026, ahead of League of Legends (485.3 million) and Grand Theft Auto V (456.1 million), per the Streamlabs x Stream Hatchet report. On Twitch, Just Chatting alone was 668.2 million hours. Riot Games was the most-watched publisher at 916.8 million hours.
Live sports is the new growth engine
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the clearest proof that rights holders now treat creators as broadcasters. Stream Hatchet counted 2.5 billion hours watched of World Cup streams, with CazéTV capturing 92% of that viewership through an exclusivity deal in Brazil. Streams Charts credits CazéTV’s YouTube channel with more than a billion hours watched in Q2, and reports YouTube non-gaming hours up 19.6% on Q1.
Twitch took no official World Cup broadcasts. Its growth came from creator tournaments and esports — Twitch esports hours rose 22.4% quarter-over-quarter, and Summer Game Fest pushed the platform past 4.4 million concurrent viewers in June.
Top live events and releases, H1 2026
| Event / title | Metric | Value | Quarter | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FIFA World Cup 2026 (streaming) | Hours watched | 2.5 billion | Q2 2026 | Stream Hatchet |
| Nintendo Direct / State of Play | Peak viewers (each) | 3.8 million | Q2 2026 | Stream Hatchet |
| Kings League World Cup Nations | Peak viewers | 2.2 million | Q1 2026 | GameSquare / Stream Hatchet |
| Meccha Chameleon | Hours watched, first 30 days | 51 million | Q2 2026 | Stream Hatchet |
| TheBurntPeanut (24/7 channel) | Hours watched | 87.4 million | Q1 2026 | GameSquare / Stream Hatchet |
Which Regions Are Pulling Away From the Global Platforms?
Esports distribution is fragmenting to local platforms. Streams Charts reports YouTube’s share of LCK hours watched fell from 46.5% in the 2025 season to 25.5% in 2026 as Korean viewers moved to SOOP and CHZZK. In Indonesia, YouTube’s share of MPL Indonesia dropped to 58%. Kick’s esports hours grew 66% quarter-over-quarter, led by the IEM Cologne Major.
Is live streaming still profitable in China?
China’s listed game-streaming platforms tell a quieter story: audiences are holding, spending isn’t.
| Company | Live streaming revenue Q2 2026 | Q2 2025 | Live share of total revenue (Q2 2026 → Q2 2025) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HUYA | RMB1,101.5M (US$162.3M) | RMB1,153.2M | 63.3% (was 73.6%) | HUYA Q2 2026 results |
| DouYu | RMB503.0M (US$74.1M) | RMB577.8M | 51.3% (was 54.8%) | DouYu Q2 2026 results |
| Combined (Axis calc.) | RMB1,604.5M (US$236.5M) | RMB1,731.0M | — | Axis Intelligence Research |
HUYA’s non-live revenue — game services, advertising, in-game items — rose 54.1% year-over-year, and live streaming dropped to 63.3% of its revenue. DouYu averaged 45.4 million livestreaming MAUs with 2.3 million quarterly paying users; Axis Intelligence Research calculates a paying-user ratio of 5.1% and live revenue of RMB11.1 per MAU for the quarter.
Noah Mc’s read: In China the virtual-gift model is running out of wallets, not viewers. DouYu’s MAU grew 2.6% sequentially while live revenue fell 13% year-on-year. Both companies are turning into game publishers with a stream attached. That’s worth remembering the next time someone models Kick’s gifting upside off 2021 Chinese ARPPU.
Methodology
Collection. Axis Intelligence Research fetched six primary sources on September 24, 2026: the Streamlabs x Stream Hatchet Q1 2026 Live Streaming Report; Stream Hatchet’s Q2 2026 report summary; GameSquare’s Q1 2026 Stream Hatchet press release; Streams Charts’ Q2 2026 Global Livestreaming Landscape; HUYA’s Q2 2026 results; and DouYu’s Q2 2026 results. Every figure in this article is a row in the companion CSV with its source URL and retrieval date.
LVDR™ formula. Hours watched ÷ hours streamed, per platform per quarter, using only Stream Hatchet figures (published via Streamlabs) so numerator and denominator share one measurement system. For Q1 2025 Kick and YouTube Gaming, hours streamed were back-derived: Q1 2026 hours streamed ÷ (1 + reported YoY growth). Twitch Q1 2025 uses the published 221.2 million figure directly.
TDM™ formula. Streams Charts quarterly total ÷ Stream Hatchet quarterly total, same quarter. It is a scope-disagreement indicator, not an error rate — neither tracker is “wrong.”
China figures. Live-share-of-revenue = live streaming revenue ÷ total net revenue, from each company’s income statement. USD conversions use RMB6.7851/US$1, the Federal Reserve H.10 rate both companies cite.
Scope. Hours watched from third-party trackers are modeled from public concurrent-viewer data and exclude private or unlisted streams; TikTok Live coverage entered Stream Hatchet’s quarterly totals in 2026, so pre-2026 Stream Hatchet totals aren’t comparable to 2026 totals. What we deliberately did not do: merge Streams Charts and Stream Hatchet platform shares into one blended figure. The two use different platform universes, and averaging them would produce a number that measures nothing.

FAQ
Is TikTok Live bigger than Twitch?
By Stream Hatchet’s count, yes: TikTok Live logged 8.9 billion hours watched in Q2 2026, a 50.9% share of the 17.5 billion hours tracked — more than every other platform combined.
Why do live streaming statistics disagree so much?
Trackers count different platforms. Streams Charts includes all YouTube live content and reported 31.43 billion hours for Q2 2026; Stream Hatchet reported 17.5 billion. Axis Intelligence Research’s TDM™ puts the gap at 1.80×.
How many viewers does an average Twitch stream get?
Averaged across all broadcast time, a Twitch stream hour drew 21.1 concurrent viewers in Q1 2026, per Axis Intelligence Research’s LVDR™ — versus 81.4 on Kick and 76.6 on YouTube Gaming.
Is Kick really catching up to Twitch?
In watch time, yes. Kick’s hours watched rose 65.35% year-over-year to 1.27 billion in Q1 2026, and Streams Charts says Twitch’s lead shrank from about 5× Kick to about 3× by Q2 2026.
Is it easier to grow a stream on Kick or YouTube than on Twitch?
The supply data says there’s less competition per viewer. Twitch had 8.74 million unique channels in Q1 2026 versus 766,495 on Kick. That lower density doesn’t guarantee growth for an individual creator — the audience is concentrated among top channels.
What content gets the most live viewers?
Just Chatting: 1.07 billion hours watched across tracked platforms in Q1 2026, more than double League of Legends’ 485.3 million.
Did the 2026 World Cup change live streaming?
It produced 2.5 billion streaming hours, per Stream Hatchet, and 92% went to creator-broadcaster CazéTV in Brazil — the clearest sign yet that sports rights are moving onto creator channels.
Is game live streaming declining in China?
Revenue is, audiences aren’t. HUYA’s live streaming revenue fell 4.5% and DouYu’s fell 13.0% year-over-year in Q2 2026, while DouYu’s MAUs grew 2.6% quarter-over-quarter.
