Dell shipped 13.6% of the world’s PCs in Q2 2026 but, by Axis Intelligence Research’s calculation, earned $1,617 of PC-segment revenue for every unit IDC counted — 1.8 times HP’s $905. Unit share and dollar share now rank the big three PC vendors in a different order.

Quick Answer

By units, Lenovo leads the global PC market with 24.4% of Q2 2026 shipments, ahead of HP (19.1%), Dell (13.6%) and Apple (9.9%), per IDC. By revenue, the order changes: among the three vendors that report PC revenue separately, Axis Intelligence Research finds Dell’s Revenue-to-Unit Ratio (RUR™) at 1.26, Apple’s at 1.21 and HP’s at 0.71. Workstations, meanwhile, rose to 3.5% of all PCs shipped.

Key Findings

  1. Axis Intelligence Research finds Dell earned $1,617 of Client Solutions Group revenue per IDC-tracked PC in Q2 2026, the highest of any vendor that discloses PC-segment revenue, against $1,545 for Apple and $905 for HP.
  2. HP shipped 44.8% of the units but captured only 31.7% of the revenue pooled across Apple, HP and Dell in Q2 2026, a Revenue-to-Unit Ratio of 0.71, per Axis Intelligence Research.
  3. Revenue per tracked unit rose 30.3% year over year at HP, 26.7% at Dell and 17.1% at Apple, Axis Intelligence Research calculates from Q2 2025–Q2 2026 filings and IDC shipments — the memory-cost pass-through, quantified.
  4. Workstations made up 3.50% of global PC shipments in Q1 2026, up from 2.98% a year earlier, according to Axis Intelligence Research’s Workstation Share Weight (WSW™) built from IDC tracker data.
  5. IDC’s own tables imply workstation shipments will grow 1.5% in 2026 (8.24 million units vs. 8.11 million in 2025) while IDC forecasts total PC shipments falling 11.3%.

Who Has the Largest PC Market Share in 2026?

Lenovo. IDC’s preliminary Q2 2026 count — published July 8, 2026 — put Lenovo at 16.6 million units and 24.4% of worldwide traditional PC shipments. The market itself fell 4.9% to 68.2 million units, the first year-over-year decline after nine growing quarters.

The top five vendors held 74.4% of shipments, and the top three alone 57.1%. The “Others” line is where the quarter’s damage concentrated: it lost 10.5% of its volume and 1.6 points of share. IDC’s Jean Philippe Bouchard said the largest vendors, with their buying power, are best placed to take share from smaller rivals — the Q2 table is that sentence in numeric form.

Lenovo’s own Q1 FY2026/27 results (quarter ended June 30, 2026) cite a 24.2% global PC share and a 25.1% share of AI PCs, figures the company attributes to IDC. Gartner, which counts slightly differently, had Lenovo at 26.5% in its preliminary 1Q26 release. For the vendor-by-vendor unit history and the operating-system split, our PC market share hub carries the full series; this page is about what those units are worth.

Mia Scarlett: The unit table answers “who ships the most boxes.” It does not answer “who sells the most computer.” Those used to be close enough to treat as one question. In 2026, with memory pushing average prices up, they are not.

What Is PC Market Share by Revenue?

PC market share by revenue measures each vendor’s slice of the dollars spent on PCs, rather than its slice of the units shipped. No analyst firm publishes a free vendor revenue-share table, so Axis Intelligence Research built one from the only public, audited source: the PC segments that vendors report in their own filings.

Three vendors report a PC segment cleanly enough to use:

  • Apple — Mac net sales, quarter ended June 27, 2026: $10,352 million (up 29% from $8,046 million), per Apple’s FY26 Q3 consolidated financial statements.
  • HP Inc. — Personal Systems net revenue, quarter ended July 31, 2026: $11,767 million (up from $9,931 million), per HP’s Form 8-K earnings exhibit.
  • Dell Technologies — Client Solutions Group revenue, quarter ended July 31, 2026: $15,034 million (up from $12,503 million), per Dell’s Q2 FY2027 results.

Lenovo is deliberately excluded. Its Intelligent Devices Group booked $17.1 billion in the June quarter, per the Lenovo Q1 FY2026/27 announcement, but that figure includes Motorola smartphones and tablets — tablet revenue alone rose more than 80%. Dividing it by PC units would overstate Lenovo’s PC revenue per unit by an unknown margin, so we don’t publish the number. That is a refusal, not a gap we papered over.

Which PC Maker Earns the Most Revenue per PC?

Dell. Axis Intelligence Research divided each vendor’s PC-segment revenue by the units IDC tracked for it in the overlapping quarter.

Segment Revenue per Tracked Unit, Q2 2026 vs. Q2 2025

VendorQ2 2026 segment revenue ($M)Q2 2026 IDC units (M)Revenue per unit, 2026Revenue per unit, 2025ChangeSource

HP Inc11,76713.0$905$694+30.3%Axis calc.: HP FQ3 8-K + IDC

Formula: revenue per tracked unit = PC-segment net revenue ÷ IDC traditional-PC shipments. Example: $15,034M ÷ 9.3M = $1,617.

Two things push Dell’s number up, and both appear in its release. Commercial Client revenue was $13,192 million — 87.7% of CSG — and commercial machines carry higher configurations. CSG’s 7.6% operating margin, against 4.6% for HP’s Personal Systems, says the premium was not bought with discounting.

HP’s own 10-Q explains its jump. In the quarter ended July 31, 2026, HP reported Commercial PS average selling prices up 41.1% on units down 13.6%, and Consumer PS ASPs up 37.1% on units down 19.4%. HP is raising prices faster than anyone in this table; it simply started from a lower base.

Mia Scarlett: Read HP’s revenue line and the quarter looks excellent: Personal Systems up 18%. Read the unit line underneath it and total units fell 16%. Revenue per unit rising 30% is not a mix story you can bank on — it’s memory cost being passed to the buyer. The question for the next two quarters is how much of that ASP survives once channel inventory at these prices has to clear.

What Is the Revenue-to-Unit Ratio (RUR™)?

The Revenue-to-Unit Ratio (RUR™) is an Axis Intelligence Research metric that compares a vendor’s share of PC revenue with its share of PC units within a defined peer pool.

Formula: RUR™ = (vendor PC-segment revenue ÷ pooled revenue) ÷ (vendor IDC units ÷ pooled IDC units)

Pool: Apple + HP + Dell — the vendors that disclose a PC-only (or near PC-only) segment. Reading: RUR above 1.0 means the vendor captures more dollars than its unit count implies; below 1.0, fewer.

Revenue-to-Unit Ratio by Vendor

Apple27.86%23.10%1.211.31Axis Intelligence Research
HP Inc31.67%44.83%0.710.69Axis Intelligence Research

Pooled inputs, Q2 2026: $37,153 million of revenue across 29.0 million IDC units. Q2 2025: $30,480 million across 30.2 million units. Pooled revenue rose 21.9% while pooled units fell — the whole market is selling fewer, dearer machines.

What the RUR shows that a revenue-per-unit table doesn’t: Apple’s ratio fell from 1.31 to 1.21 even as its revenue per unit climbed. Apple gained unit share faster than it gained dollar share, which is exactly what a lower-priced MacBook Neo would do to the mix. Dell held flat at 1.26. HP edged up from 0.69 to 0.71, the only vendor moving toward the pool average.

Scope of the RUR™

Fiscal calendars do not align perfectly. Apple’s quarter ended June 27 and matches IDC’s April–June window; HP’s and Dell’s quarters ended July 31, a one-month offset. Segment revenue also includes displays, peripherals and attached services that IDC does not count as units, so revenue per unit is an upper bound rather than a pure ASP. Both conventions are applied identically in 2025 and 2026, so the year-over-year direction is comparable.

How Big Is the Workstation Market in 2026?

A workstation, in IDC’s tracker, is a desktop or mobile PC built for professional workloads — ISV-certified graphics, error-correcting memory, CAD and simulation. IDC counts workstations inside its desktop and notebook totals, which is why the categories in its tables sum to the headline figure: in Q1 2026, desktops (18,165,336) plus notebooks (47,432,504) equal the 65.6 million PCs IDC reported.

The Workstation Share Weight (WSW™) = workstation units ÷ (desktop + notebook units), from the same IDC table. Full-year 2025 reading: 2.81% (8,111,194 workstations).

In Q1 2026, workstation shipments rose 20.6% year over year while desktops and notebooks combined grew 2.5%. IDC’s forecast table lists 3,097,399 desktop and datacenter workstations plus 5,139,163 mobile workstations for 2026 — 8.24 million in total, 1.5% above 2025, in a year IDC expects total PC shipments to fall 11.3%.

Did the Workstation Market Slow in Q2 2026?

Yes, but less than PCs. Jon Peddie Research reported on September 8, 2026 that workstation shipments fell 2.3% year over year and 16% sequentially in Q2 2026 — its sharpest drops since 2023. Against IDC’s −4.9% for all PCs in the same quarter, workstations still outperformed by roughly 2.6 points. Different trackers, different scopes: treat that gap as directional.

Who Leads the Workstation Market?

Dell (Precision), HP (Z by HP) and Lenovo (ThinkStation and ThinkPad P) are the three workstation lines that dominate this category. Vendor-level workstation share for 2026 is not publicly available: JPR sells it in its quarterly report, and IDC reserves it for tracker clients. We will not publish a share figure we cannot trace to a fetched document. HP’s FQ3 release does name workstations as one of the areas where it grew share, without giving a number.

Mia Scarlett: Workstations are the part of the PC market behaving like the server business rather than the consumer business. A 20% unit rise in Q1, a forecast that stays positive in a down year — that’s demand tied to project budgets for simulation, design and local AI work, not to replacement cycles. It’s also why Dell’s commercial mix carries the ratio it does.

Why Are PC Prices Rising While Shipments Fall?

Memory. Gartner estimated in February 2026 that combined DRAM and SSD prices would rise 130% by the end of 2026, lifting memory from 16% of a PC’s bill of materials in 2025 to 23%. IDC’s June 2026 outlook forecasts PC average selling prices rising 18.3% in 2026.

The filings show where that cost lands. HP’s ASPs rose more than a third in both its commercial and consumer lines in a single quarter. Every vendor in our pool raised revenue per unit by at least 17%. IDC’s Jitesh Ubrani described the quarter as a disconnect between units and dollars — the RUR™ table is that disconnect, measured vendor by vendor.

Which Vendors Are Gaining Share in the Memory Shortage?

By units in Q2 2026: Apple (+1.4 points), Lenovo (+0.7) and ASUS (+0.4) gained; HP (−0.8) and “Others” (−1.6) lost; Dell was flat, per IDC. By revenue within our pool, Dell kept the largest dollar share at 40.47%, and Apple’s dollar share rose from 26.40% to 27.86%.

Methodology

Collection. Unit shipments come from IDC’s preliminary Q2 2026 Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker release (July 8, 2026) and from IDC’s public device-market page (updated June 8, 2026). Revenue comes from each vendor’s primary disclosure: Apple’s consolidated financial statements, HP’s SEC Form 8-K exhibit and Form 10-Q, Dell’s earnings release, and Lenovo’s results announcement. Workstation trend data adds Jon Peddie Research’s Q2 2026 release. All documents were retrieved October 1, 2026.

Formulas.

  • Revenue per tracked unit = segment revenue ÷ IDC units.
  • RUR™ = (vendor revenue ÷ pool revenue) ÷ (vendor units ÷ pool units); pool = Apple, HP, Dell.
  • WSW™ = workstation units ÷ (desktop + notebook units), single IDC table. All arithmetic was run twice, in floating point and in exact rational form, before publication.

Scope. Lenovo, ASUS and Acer are excluded from revenue metrics because none reports a PC-only revenue line. HP and Dell quarters end one month after IDC’s calendar quarter. Segment revenue includes non-unit items such as peripherals and services. IDC figures are preliminary and may be revised; Gartner and IDC use different market definitions and are never mixed inside one ratio.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the PC vendor with the most units also the one with the most PC revenue?

Not necessarily. Lenovo leads units with 24.4% (IDC, Q2 2026), but it does not report PC-only revenue. Among vendors that do, Dell’s Client Solutions Group took in $15.0 billion in its July quarter on 9.3 million units, more PC revenue than HP’s $11.8 billion on 13.0 million units.

Why does HP ship more PCs than Dell but earn less PC revenue?

Mix. Commercial products were 72.9% of HP Personal Systems revenue in the July 2026 quarter versus 87.7% of Dell’s Client Solutions Group revenue. HP sells more consumer and entry-level units, which lowers revenue per unit to about $905 against Dell’s $1,617, per Axis Intelligence Research.

Did the MacBook Neo lower Apple’s revenue per Mac?

Apple’s revenue per tracked unit still rose 17.1% to $1,545, but its Revenue-to-Unit Ratio fell from 1.31 to 1.21. Apple’s unit share grew faster than its revenue share — the pattern a lower-priced model produces.

What share of PCs shipped are workstations?

3.50% in Q1 2026, up from 2.98% a year earlier, per Axis Intelligence Research’s Workstation Share Weight calculated from IDC data. For full-year 2025 the figure was 2.81%, or about 8.1 million workstations.

Are workstation shipments growing in 2026?

IDC’s forecast tables put 2026 workstation shipments at 8.24 million, 1.5% above 2025, while total PCs are forecast to fall 11.3%. Jon Peddie Research reported a 2.3% year-over-year dip in Q2 2026, smaller than the 4.9% drop IDC recorded for all PCs.

Who has the largest workstation market share?

Dell, HP and Lenovo are the three major workstation vendors, but 2026 vendor-level workstation shares are sold only in paid JPR and IDC reports. Axis Intelligence Research does not publish an untraceable estimate.

How much have PC prices risen because of the memory shortage?

IDC forecasts PC average selling prices up 18.3% in 2026. HP reported ASP increases of 41.1% in commercial PCs and 37.1% in consumer PCs for its July 2026 quarter. Gartner expects memory to reach 23% of PC bill-of-materials cost in 2026.

Why isn’t Lenovo in the revenue-share ranking?

Lenovo reports PCs inside its Intelligent Devices Group, which also contains smartphones and tablets. Dividing that $17.1 billion by PC units would overstate PC revenue per unit, so Axis Intelligence Research excludes Lenovo rather than estimate it.
