GTA 6 arrives on November 19, 2026, 30 days after this update, and the most important number about it is not a trailer count. It is the gap between what Take-Two has already booked this fiscal year and what its own guidance says it will book: at least $4.94 billion in the six months that contain the launch.

Quick Answer

GTA 6 (Grand Theft Auto VI) launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at $79.99 (Standard) and $99.99 (Ultimate). Take-Two guides fiscal 2027 net bookings of $8.0 to $8.2 billion. According to Axis Intelligence Research, that guidance implies $4.94 to $5.19 billion of net bookings from October 2026 to March 2027, 1.48x to 1.56x the same half a year earlier.

Key Findings

  • According to Axis Intelligence Research, Take-Two’s guidance implies $4.94 to $5.19 billion in net bookings for October 2026 to March 2027, a Launch Half Bookings Multiple (LHBM) of 1.48x to 1.56x.
  • Take-Two reported fiscal Q1 2027 net bookings of $1.39 billion on August 7, 2026, down 3% year over year, and reiterated its $8.0 to $8.2 billion fiscal 2027 outlook (SEC filing).
  • Rockstar Games prices GTA 6 at $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition, with digital pre-load opening November 12, 2026 (Take-Two press release, June 24, 2026).
  • Sony reported cumulative PS5 sell-in of 95.3 million units as of June 30, 2026, the largest disclosed console base GTA 6 can launch into (Sony Interactive Entertainment).
  • Netflix counted 31.1 million views for Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look between August 27 and August 30, 2026, ranking No. 1 in 87 of 93 tracked countries.
  • Sensor Tower estimates 6.45 million GTA 6 pre-orders and $630 million in consumer spending, net of returns, through October 20, 2026, with PlayStation taking 74% of the mix.

When Does GTA 6 Come Out, and What Is Officially Confirmed?

GTA 6 comes out on November 19, 2026, and the date appears in Take-Two’s fiscal Q1 2027 earnings release filed with the SEC on August 7, 2026. That filing lists PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as the only launch platforms. No PC version has been announced.

Everything in the table below comes from Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive documents. Nothing here is a leak, a retailer listing or an analyst guess.

The pre-order press release describes GTA 6 as “a single-player experience.” That wording matters commercially, and the guidance section below explains why. The ESRB rating is M (Mature 17+), with seven content descriptors and an In-Game Purchases notice. That notice sits alongside Take-Two’s statement that no recurrent consumer spending is expected at launch; the ESRB does not say what the purchases are.

One more number from the same release moves an old figure forward: Rockstar now says the Grand Theft Auto series has sold in over 470 million units worldwide, up from the over 465 million stated in Take-Two’s fiscal 2026 Form 10-K in May.

How Much Does GTA 6 Cost? Standard vs Ultimate Edition

GTA 6 costs $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition in the US, per Take-Two’s June 24, 2026 press release. Rockstar’s official GTA VI site lists 16 Ultimate Edition entries, and five of them are locations described as only open for business with the Ultimate Edition.

What the Ultimate Edition adds

Rockstar groups the 16 entries by type. The five Ultimate-only locations are the Rideout Customs and One-Eyed Willie’s mod shops, Sara’s Unisex Salon, the Stock 305 clothing store and the Electric Fang Tattoo shop, which carries over 50 tattoo designs by the artist collective FAILE.

Rockstar’s editions page lists the Ultimate Edition as digital only and the Standard Edition as digital or code in box. What the Microsoft Store listing does show is an Ultimate Edition Upgrade priced at $20, so a Standard owner, including someone who bought the boxed code, can move to Ultimate later. On the same store, GTA+ (Rockstar’s membership) costs $7.99 a month in the US and continues automatically unless cancelled.

The format question matters less than it sounds. Zelnick said on the August 7 call that Take-Two’s business is “well over 90% digitally distributed as is,” per the same transcript.

The $20 step is the lever to watch. Every buyer who moves up to Ultimate adds 25% to the ticket without adding a unit, so the edition mix will shape Take-Two’s bookings as much as the unit count. Take-Two has not disclosed that mix, and no one outside the company can see it before the November 9 call at the earliest.

The physical box carrying a code instead of a disc also changes the retail picture. It means even shelf copies require a download, which is why Rockstar opened pre-load on November 12, a full week before launch.

How Much Is Take-Two Betting on GTA 6?

Take-Two is guiding fiscal 2027 net bookings of $8.0 to $8.2 billion, up from $6.72 billion in fiscal 2026. Net bookings is Take-Two’s operating metric: the net amount of products and services sold digitally or sold-in physically during a period.

That guidance is the single most binding forward-looking figure tied to GTA 6, because it sits in SEC filings. Take-Two set it on May 21, 2026 in its fiscal 2026 results and repeated it on August 7.

The starting point is smaller than most people assume. Take-Two’s fiscal 2026 Form 10-K states that Grand Theft Auto products contributed 12.4% of net revenue in the year to March 31, 2026, which Axis Intelligence Research converts to about $825.4 million on $6.66 billion of GAAP net revenue. That figure covers GTA V and GTA Online, a game released in 2013.

The guidance implies growth of 19% to 22% over fiscal 2026, a step-up of $1.28 to $1.48 billion. Wall Street wanted more. Reuters reported that analysts had expected fiscal 2027 net bookings of $8.86 billion, which puts the company’s own range $660 million to $860 million below the Street.

There are two readings of that gap. One is caution from a publisher that has delayed this game twice. The other is in the call itself. On August 7, CEO Strauss Zelnick told analysts that “the level of preorders is unprecedented and astonishing,” then added that they are “so unprecedented that we just don’t know how it will translate into sales,” according to the earnings call transcript published by The Motley Fool. He also reminded analysts that “we haven’t sold one unit yet. You can cancel a preorder.” Take-Two reiterated its range; it did not raise it. A company that sees demand it cannot yet convert into a forecast holds the number where it is, and that is exactly what the filing shows.

Why GTA 6 ships without recurrent spending at launch

Recurrent consumer spending (in-game currency, add-on content, in-game purchases) made up 78% of Take-Two’s fiscal 2026 net bookings and 84% in fiscal Q1 2027. GTA 6 contributes none of it on day one. At the annual stockholder meeting on September 17, a shareholder asked about recurrent consumer spending in GTA 6. “There’s no recurrent consumer spending anticipated with regard to this launch,” Zelnick answered, as quoted by GTA Boom. Take-Two has posted no transcript; the official audio replay of the meeting is hosted by Broadridge.

That makes the launch window a full-game sales event in the plainest sense. Every dollar GTA 6 adds to the October to March half is a box or a digital copy, which is why the next section converts those dollars into units.

Console bookings were already moving before launch

Console net bookings rose 10.7% in fiscal Q1 2027, from $474.4 million to $525.2 million, while mobile net bookings fell 6.7%, from $792.8 million to $739.5 million (Axis Intelligence Research calculation from the SEC release). Take-Two credited NBA 2K and the Grand Theft Auto series for the quarter’s outperformance. The Q2 FY2027 guidance of $1.62 to $1.67 billion sits 14.8% to 17.4% below the $1.96 billion Take-Two booked in the same quarter a year earlier, when Borderlands 4 and NBA 2K26 launched.

How Many Copies Does GTA 6 Need to Sell? The Launch Half Bookings Multiple (LHBM)

The Launch Half Bookings Multiple (LHBM) is an Axis Intelligence Research metric. It divides the net bookings Take-Two’s guidance implies for the second half of fiscal 2027 (October 2026 to March 2027, the half that contains GTA 6) by the net bookings Take-Two actually reported for the same half a year earlier.

LHBM = (FY2027 guidance minus Q1 FY2027 actual minus Q2 FY2027 guidance) / (Q3 FY2026 actual plus Q4 FY2026 actual)

Every input is an SEC-filed number. The denominator is $1,757.1 million (Q3 FY2026, February 3, 2026 release) plus $1,580.3 million (Q4 FY2026), which equals $3,337.4 million.

ScenarioImplied H2 FY2027 net bookingsArithmeticLHBMIncremental vs H2 FY2026

Midpoint$5,069.1 million8,100 minus 1,385.9 minus 1,6451.52x$1.73 billion
High (guidance ceiling, Q2 at bottom)$5,194.1 million8,200 minus 1,385.9 minus 1,6201.56x$1.86 billion

Source: Take-Two Interactive SEC 8-K filings (Nov 6, 2025; Feb 3, 2026; May 21, 2026; Aug 7, 2026). LHBM and incremental columns are Axis Intelligence Research calculations.

According to Axis Intelligence Research, the October 2026 to March 2027 half has to carry 61.8% to 63.3% of Take-Two’s entire fiscal 2027 net bookings guidance.

Put the incremental $1.61 billion to $1.86 billion next to the $825.4 million Grand Theft Auto products earned in all of fiscal 2026 and the step becomes concrete: according to Axis Intelligence Research, the guidance asks the launch half to add 1.95x to 2.25x what the whole GTA franchise brought in during the previous full year.

What the LHBM means in copies

Divide the incremental bookings by the $79.99 Standard price and the guidance needs the equivalent of 20.1 million to 23.2 million full-price copies on top of last year’s second half, with 21.6 million at the midpoint.

That is a scale marker, not a sales forecast, and the accounting says it understates the real unit count. Take-Two’s 10-K states that for sales through PlayStation Network, Xbox and Steam it is not the principal, so it records the amount it receives from the storefront, net of the storefront’s fees. Every digital copy of GTA 6 sold on PS5 or Xbox therefore books less than $79.99. Take-Two does not disclose the fee rate, so the exact gap cannot be computed, but the direction is certain: more copies than the list-price equivalent are needed to fill the half.

Two forces pull the other way. Ultimate Edition buyers at $99.99 raise the amount per copy. And the rest of the portfolio may carry more than last year, although mobile, which fell 6.7% in Q1, points the other direction.

Here is the comparison that frames the bar. GTA V sold 11.21 million units in its first 24 hours in September 2013, per Guinness World Records. According to Axis Intelligence Research, the GTA 6 midpoint requires 1.93x that GTA V day-one figure in list-price equivalents, spread over the 132 days from launch to March 31, 2027 rather than one day. Read that way, Take-Two’s range looks like a floor the company expects to clear, not a stretch target.

What would move the LHBM

The November 9 results will reset the numerator. If Take-Two raises fiscal 2027 guidance, the LHBM rises with it; a Q2 beat with unchanged annual guidance lowers it, because more of the year is already booked. Axis Intelligence Research will publish the post-call reading on this page.

How Big Is the GTA 6 Console Audience?

Sony reported cumulative PS5 sell-in of 95.3 million units as of June 30, 2026, on its Business Data and Sales page. Sell-in counts units shipped to retailers, not units bought by players. Microsoft does not disclose Xbox Series X|S unit sales, so the full GTA 6 audience cannot be summed from primary data.

PS5 annual shipments fell 13.5% in fiscal 2025, from 18.5 million to 16.0 million. So GTA 6 lands on a mature base, not a growing one. That is good for day-one reach: 95.3 million consoles are already in homes, and none of them needs to be bought for launch week. It is less good for a hardware bump, since Sony shipped just 1.6 million PS5s in its April to June 2026 quarter.

The June version of this page used a third-party estimate of 89.44 million PS5s at December 2025. Sony’s own quarterly table puts that date at 92.2 million, 2.76 million higher. That figure has been replaced (see the correction note).

How Many People Have Watched GTA 6 Trailers?

GTA 6 has set records on three different counting systems, and they cannot be added together. Guinness World Records counts YouTube views in 24 hours. Rockstar reported a cross-platform total it did not itemize. Netflix counts a view as total hours watched divided by runtime.

Reconciling the Trailer 1 counts

YouTube said over 93 million; Guinness certified 90,421,491. According to Axis Intelligence Research, the gap is 2.85%, consistent with YouTube’s internal data window running on its own 24-hour clock. Cite the Guinness number as the record and the YouTube number as the platform’s own count. Do not average them.

Trailer 1 beat the previous non-music record of 59.4 million views held by MrBeast by 1.52x. Rockstar’s 475 million cross-platform figure for Trailer 2 was 1.30x the 365 million cited for the Deadpool and Wolverine trailer, but because Rockstar did not list the platforms behind it, that comparison is between two company-reported totals rather than two audited counts.

The Netflix number in hours

The 27-minute Extended Look drew 31.1 million Netflix views, which Axis Intelligence Research converts to about 14.0 million hours watched using Netflix’s own definition. The runner-up English film that week, The Whisper Man, drew 23.2 million views. A free promotional reel outdrew a new studio thriller on the service’s own chart in 87 of 93 countries, and that is a demand signal no trailer counter can show, because a Netflix view requires watching to the end, on average.

How Much Will GTA 6 Move the Video Game Market?

Newzoo estimates the global games market will reach $213.9 billion in 2026, up 6.1% from $201.6 billion in 2025, and states that without GTA 6, console revenues would decline year over year. Newzoo is a market measurement firm, so these are estimates, from its Global Games Market Report 2026, Free Edition (September 2026).

Global games market$213.9 billion (up 6.1%)

Source: Newzoo, Global Games Market Report 2026, Free Edition (September 2026). The six markets are the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. Estimates.

The ranking row is the sharpest pre-launch signal in the report. In the first half of 2026, GTA 6 had not shipped a single copy, yet its pre-order revenue alone outranked every released Adventure game on console in Newzoo’s six markets, including GTA V. The second sharpest is the player-growth line: Newzoo expects console players to grow 3.0% in 2026 after 0.5% in 2025, and names GTA 6 as the shared catalyst.

Newzoo sized the pre-order opening in a separate piece. In a July 16, 2026 Newzoo article, management consultant Ronan Patrick put GTA 6 digital pre-order spending at roughly $180 million in the final week of June across the US, UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain, measured by the Newzoo Game Performance Monitor. About 69% of GTA V’s lifetime console players sit in those six markets, so Newzoo scales the $180 million to a global estimate of approximately $260 million for the first week. The $180 million is tracked spending; the $260 million is an extrapolation.

From that opening, Newzoo projects $3.25 billion to $5.2 billion in global sales by the end of launch week. Its central case follows the “proven sequel” pre-order curve, on which the first pre-order week carries about 5.8% of launch-week revenue: $4.5 billion, or roughly 51 million units at an assumed $88 average selling price. Its conservative case assumes harder front-loading at about 8%: $3.3 billion and around 37 million units. The same article rejects social media claims that GTA 6 had already passed $1 billion in pre-orders.

At $79.99, Newzoo’s $260 million first-week estimate equals about 3.25 million Standard copies, an upper bound because Ultimate orders cost more. Set that against the 20.1 million to 23.2 million list-price equivalents the LHBM requires (themselves a floor, given storefront fees) and the shape of the launch becomes clear: according to Axis Intelligence Research, pre-orders in the first week covered a fraction of what the guidance needs, so the bulk of GTA 6’s fiscal-year contribution still has to come from launch week and the holiday quarter.

Newzoo’s launch-week range measures consumer spending, while Take-Two reports net bookings after storefront fees, so the two do not convert one for one. Even so, Newzoo’s low case for launch week alone ($3.25 billion) is 1.75x the high end of the incremental second-half bookings the LHBM derives ($1.86 billion). If Newzoo’s curve holds, Take-Two’s guidance reads as cautious rather than stretched.

What Sensor Tower’s pre-order tracker shows

Sensor Tower, a market measurement firm, publishes a weekly GTA VI Sales Tracker for PlayStation and Xbox. Its October 20, 2026 reading puts GTA 6 at 6.45 million pre-orders and $630 million in consumer spending, net of returns. These are estimates, not company figures.

PlatformPre-ordersRevenue, net of returnsSpend per pre-order
PlayStation4.80 million$468 million$97.50
Xbox1.66 million$162 million$97.59
Total6.45 million$630 million$97.67

Source: Sensor Tower GTA VI Sales Tracker, updated October 20, 2026 (estimates). Platform units sum to 6.46 million because of rounding. Spend per pre-order is an Axis Intelligence Research calculation.

PlayStation takes 74% of the mix. In the week to October 20, Sensor Tower added 370,000 estimated pre-orders and $36 million, up 6.1%. Sensor Tower revised its model on October 5, 2026 to better reflect country splits, which it says had a small impact on units, revenue and console mix.

Spend per pre-order is the telling number. At $97.67, the average order sits close to the $99.99 Ultimate price rather than the $79.99 Standard price, so early buyers lean heavily to the premium edition. Against the guidance, the tracker is still early: according to Axis Intelligence Research, 6.45 million pre-orders equal 27.8% to 32.1% of the 20.1 million to 23.2 million list-price equivalents the LHBM requires, with 30 days left before launch.

How Many Times Has GTA 6 Been Delayed?

GTA 6 has been publicly delayed twice. The first delay moved it from fall 2025 to May 26, 2026; the second, announced in Take-Two’s November 6, 2025 earnings release, moved it to November 19, 2026, a further 177 days.

The gap between GTA V (September 17, 2013) and GTA 6 is 13.2 years. Two signals since August argue the date now holds: the date was printed into a second SEC release on August 7, and a launch trailer followed on October 15, 69 days later.

GTA 6 vs GTA V: What the Launch Has to Beat

GTA V generated $815.7 million in its first 24 hours and reached $1 billion in three days, according to Guinness World Records. Those remain the benchmark figures, because Take-Two has never broken out first-day revenue for any later release.

GTA V’s $815.7 million over 11.21 million units works out to $72.77 per unit. Our GTA 5 statistics page tracks how that game’s long tail turned into a decade of recurrent spending, and the Grand Theft Auto franchise statistics page covers every mainline entry.

GTA 6 Questions People Are Asking Before Launch

Does GTA 6 have GTA Online at launch?

No. Take-Two’s June 24, 2026 press release calls GTA 6 a single-player experience, and CEO Strauss Zelnick told stockholders on September 17 that no recurrent consumer spending is anticipated with this launch. Take-Two has not announced an online mode or its date.

Why does the physical copy of GTA 6 not have a disc?

The physical version contains a download code inside the box, per Take-Two’s June 24, 2026 press release, and only the Standard Edition is offered that way; Rockstar lists the Ultimate Edition as digital only. Physical boxes go on sale November 12, the same day digital pre-load opens, one week before the November 19 launch.

How many people can play GTA 6 on day one?

Sony reported 95.3 million PS5 consoles sold in through June 30, 2026. Microsoft does not publish Xbox Series X|S unit sales, so a combined total cannot be built from company data.

How many copies does GTA 6 need to sell for Take-Two to hit its forecast?

According to Axis Intelligence Research, Take-Two’s guidance implies $1.61 billion to $1.86 billion more net bookings in October 2026 to March 2027 than a year earlier. At $79.99, that equals 20.1 million to 23.2 million Standard copies. Because Take-Two books console storefront sales net of platform fees, the real number of copies needed is higher.

How many GTA 6 pre-orders have been sold?

Take-Two has not disclosed pre-order numbers. The best public estimate is Sensor Tower’s: 6.45 million pre-orders and $630 million in consumer spending, net of returns, on PlayStation and Xbox through October 20, 2026. Zelnick called the level of pre-orders “unprecedented and astonishing” on the August 7 earnings call.

When will Take-Two report GTA 6 sales?

Take-Two reports Q2 FY2027 results on November 9, 2026, but that quarter ended September 30, before launch. The first quarter containing GTA 6 sales ends December 31, 2026; Take-Two has not yet announced that report date.

Is GTA 6 coming to PC?

Not at launch. Take-Two’s August 7, 2026 filing lists only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Zelnick said at the September 17 stockholder meeting that PC is becoming more important to the company, without naming GTA 6, as GTA Boom reported. Newzoo’s September 2026 report assumes a PC version in late 2027; that is Newzoo’s assumption, not an announcement.

What do you get in the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition?

Rockstar’s GTA VI site lists 16 Ultimate Edition entries for the $99.99 edition, including the ’95 Grotti Cheetah, two custom revolvers and five locations only open with the Ultimate Edition, such as Electric Fang Tattoo with over 50 designs by FAILE. Rockstar sells the Ultimate Edition as digital only. A Standard copy, digital or boxed, can be upgraded through the $20 Ultimate Edition Upgrade listed on the Microsoft Store.

Did the GTA 6 Netflix special really beat movies?

Yes, on Netflix’s own chart. Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look recorded 31.1 million views from August 27 to 30, 2026 and topped the English film list, ahead of The Whisper Man at 23.2 million, per Netflix Tudum.

Methodology

What this page measures. This page tracks what is confirmed about GTA 6 before launch, and what Take-Two’s filed guidance implies about the launch window. Day-one revenue projections live on our GTA 6 revenue statistics page to keep the two questions separate.

Sources. Axis Intelligence Research fetched every figure on October 18, 2026. Financial figures come from Take-Two’s SEC 8-K exhibits (November 6, 2025; February 3, 2026; May 21, 2026; August 7, 2026). Company structure facts (Grand Theft Auto share of revenue, customer concentration, storefront accounting) come from Take-Two’s fiscal 2026 Form 10-K. Product facts come from Take-Two’s June 24, 2026 press release and the Ultimate Edition section of Rockstar’s GTA VI site, reviewed by an Axis editor on October 18, 2026. Console data comes from Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Business Data and Sales page. Viewing data comes from Guinness World Records, the YouTube Official Blog and Netflix Tudum. Rockstar-reported totals relayed by the press (Trailer 2’s 475 million) are labeled as company-reported. Sensor Tower figures come from its GTA VI Sales Tracker reading of October 20, 2026, captured by an Axis editor, and are labeled as estimates. Newzoo figures come from the September 2026 free edition.

LHBM construction. Numerator: Take-Two’s fiscal 2027 net bookings guidance minus reported Q1 FY2027 net bookings minus Q2 FY2027 guidance. Denominator: reported Q3 plus Q4 FY2026 net bookings. Low and high readings pair the guidance floor with the top of Q2 guidance, and the ceiling with the bottom, so the range is the widest the filings allow. The unit equivalent divides the incremental bookings by the $79.99 Standard price; because console storefront sales are booked net of platform fees, it is a lower bound on copies, before edition mix.

Scope. Net bookings cover Take-Two’s full portfolio, so the LHBM measures the second half’s burden, not GTA 6 in isolation. Take-Two does not disclose GTA 6 edition mix, the platform fee rate behind its per-copy net bookings, or pre-order units. GTA+ prices are taken from the US Microsoft Store and may differ by region and platform. Xbox installed base is not disclosed by Microsoft. Sony figures are sell-in.

What we removed. The June 2026 version carried two composite metrics, the GTA 6 Market Gravity Index (MGVI) and the Addressable Console Penetration Rate (ACPR). Neither could be reproduced from sourced inputs, so both are retired and appear as retracted rows in the dataset with the reason stated.

Correction, October 18, 2026: An earlier version of this page stated that the PS5 installed base was 89.44 million units in December 2025; Sony’s own quarterly data implies 92.2 million at December 31, 2025, and Sony reports 95.3 million as of June 30, 2026. The earlier version also listed UK prices that could not be confirmed on Rockstar’s GTA VI site or in Take-Two’s press release; they have been removed. The Market Gravity Index (MGVI, 9.2) and the Addressable Console Penetration Rate (ACPR, 28.3%) have been withdrawn because their inputs could not be traced to primary sources. The earlier version said GTA+ renews at $9 a month; the US Microsoft Store lists $7.99 a month. The claim that the GTA 6 map is 2.5x the size of GTA V’s and the analyst unit projections from Piper Sandler (35 million) and Konvoy (85 million) have been removed because no primary document could be verified. Separately, the series unit figure has been updated from over 465 million (Take-Two 10-K, May 2026) to over 470 million (June 24, 2026); the earlier figure was accurate when published.
